Update, Some things to look forward to & Baby Luke! ♥ San Diego Baby Photographer

OK, I’ve been meaning to write this post for MONTHS!  I so want to be a good blogger.  Maybe next year!  Speaking of next year… we have some really exciting things going on!  I’m SO excited!  We never did have a chance to celebrate our 10 year anniversary so we are doing it  in January – probably the 12th or 13th!  My birthday is in January and my Dad will be visiting.  I would love to be able to show him the studio and for him to meet some of my wonderful clients.  We have details for you soon but basically I just want the chance to have you come out and see the studio (we’re getting new artwork!), have some munchies and talk about what we have in store for next year.   It will be a great opportunity to catch up with existing clients and to also meet with potential new clients.  We will be unveiling our brand new logo for Just Hatched Photography!  I’m so excited about this logo.  I have loved the logo I’ve had for the past 10 years but it was time for a change!  If you read this and are interested in attending, please leave me a comment letting me know whether Saturday the 12th or Sunday the 13th is better for you.

One of the things we want to talk about is our new All Inclusive Digital Image Collections.  Our clients are LOVING them… I’m LOVING them!  There will be lots more coming on the benefits of these but one of the biggest benefits is that you get the complete story.  A session can include a wide variety of expressions, moments and emotions.  The thing is… as much as you might love the oddball pictures and want to have them… they are the ones that would be cut first.  Not anymore!  You get a complete story.  To illustrate this I want to show you a complete baby session.  I’m showing them all in color and in B/w because this little guy had the biggest range of expressions and some are just priceless in B/W.  I just loved everything about this session.

Enjoy!

Changes ♥ San Diego Maternity & Baby Photographer

I’ve thought a long time about writing this blog post – probably the better part of the last year. As of July 2012 Just Hatched Photography has adopted an All Inclusive Digital Images business model.

What does this mean? Well, it means that your session fee and the cost of all of the finished digital image files will be included in the amount that you pay. The amount will vary depending on the type of session your are booking. I truly feel that this offers a great value for 80% of my clients. For those who have had a session and purchased 15 or more files in your digital collection, the cost is about the same but you will now be receiving all of your finished digital images. This is an especially good deal for those coming in for newborn sessions. In addition to the value, you will be receiving your finished files and your keepsake book more quickly – usually within two weeks of your session.

As I said, for 80% of my clients this is a positive change. However, it’s the other 20% that have weighed heavily on my heart. Many of you have been loyal clients for several years. And while I may not have to explain my reasons for the change, I feel compelled to do so.

When the economy went downhill in 2008 I almost immediately made changes in my business by lowering rates. I recognized that people were concerned about finances but still wanted quality portraits of their children. However, with the lowering of the rates, I quickly realized I would have to increase the volume of clients in order to keep the business going. Now, four years later, I have been operating at a fairly steady volume and by most people’s standards would be considered “successful”.

The problem is I work ALL the time. And I mean ALL the time. Several months ago my twelve year old son came up to me and asked if I would take him to the studio and take some pictures of him. I was shocked. My kids NEVER want to have their picture taken. When I asked him why he said, “Because at least then I would get to spend some time with you.” As a mother I was heartbroken and I knew something had to change. I have four children – one of whom will be graduating from high school this coming year. While many of you are just starting out with your children, I am faced with beginning to let mine go. I’ve come to realize how precious this time is and that I have to find a way to balance the two things that make me whole. My love for my family and my love for photography. That is what this change is designed to do.

I intend to periodically offer discounts and contests so please keep up with this blog (you can subscribe by entering your email address to the left) and our FACEBOOK page to know when these things are happening. We also offer payment plans for those who would like to divide up the cost of their portrait investment over several months.

Thank you so much for your business, your understanding, and for your support!

Baby Emmy ♥ San Diego Newborn Photographer

I’m not even going to lie anymore… I stink at blog posting.  But I”m trying!  Part of the problem is that I’m so busy photographing that it’s hard to find time to do posts.  I want to share though!  So, in that spirit here is Baby Emmy.     She was such a pretty baby girl!  She might be in college now though since I’m so far behind!  :)  Kidding!

Enjoy!

Baby “R” ♥ San Diego Newborn Photographer

This session was so much fun all around!  Baby “R” was perfect, tiny peanut who loved to smile.  Mom brought the adorable owl hat so we busted out the nest and Little Miss “R” complied willingly with our whims.  The middle picture of her sleeping on dad’s arm has to be about the best I’ve ever done that shot.  A totally sleepy and content baby is the ONLY way to really do that one.  :)

Special thanks to Bailey Goodwin who was home on her college spring break and helped me out on this shoot.  I could get used to having an extra set of hands around the studio!

Still more of the Baby Girl boom to post but it looks like next week is shaping up to be busy with newborns again!

I LOVE the nest photo. Such a sweet baby and yes, the daddy’s arm picture is fantastic!

Hunger Games Anyone??? ♥ San Diego Cool Mom Photographer

Some of you may or may not know that I also own THEStudioSD.  I recently started this business to photograph High School Seniors because my daughter and all of her friends are approaching that age.  It’s just getting started and is something that I like to do occasionally.  Babies will always be my first love.  Plus… let’s be honest… a baby doesn’t complain about being fat (when they are a size “0″) or how their hair looks!

That said, my daughter has some of the coolest kids ever for friends.  A lot of them are musical theatre students at the Coronado School of the Arts when my daughter goes to school.  ALL of them are obsessed with The Hunger Games and have managed to get me all caught up in the obsession as well.  I read all three books in less than a week!  While I won’t be standing in line at midnight this Friday morning, I will be going Friday evening to see the movie.  So, when the kids approached me with the idea of photographing them to look like some of the movie promo pictures I was IN!  You can see the original posters HERE.

So… just for fun on this rainy Monday and for all you Hunger Games fans… here are some images from our Hunger Games inspired shoot!  My daughter is the last one.  ;)  And this is how I get to be the “cool mom”.  At least for a few days!
